Alex Cross, a Washington D.C. cop and forensic psychologist discovers his niece has gone missing while attending college in North Carolina. After going there and talking with authorities there - including those suspected to be victims - it becomes apparent they suspect she might be one of many kidnapped girls by an individual named Cassanova after one of the great lovers he held captive before killing them off one by one; later one victim Kate escapes in order to help Cross find his niece.
